Cowgirl 1st Birthday

I went to my dear friend’s daughters 1st birthday party yesterday and it was so cute!  She did a cowgirl theme with bandanas, cowboy hats and boot chocolates and adorable themed color books that she made.  She found her free coloring pages at www.cowboycoloringbooks.com  and then printed, bound them together with colored construction paper and stickers that each kido got to color at the party and take home.

Her adorable suckers were so tasty and cute from Snootie Suckers which is here locally in Roseville Ca and is super affordable.  If she doesn’t have what theme of sucker you want she will find it for you and get them made as well! Find her here at SmootieSuckers@yahoo.com and Smootie Suckers on Facebook!

The cupcakes were super yummy.  She cut out cute pictures of cowgirls and put bandana paper on the back attached to sticks and inserted in the cupcakes.  Using a organic box cake mix and adding cocoa to make chocolate ones helped her save time with still having a tasty treat for everyone.

Olivia got to have her own little cake to eat up as we sang happy birthday.  Mom made her an adorable cowgirl apron to wear while she dug in!  She also sewed her a precious cowgirl skirt and had her decked out in a little button up plaid shirt too.  She had cowgirl boots but one got lost at wal-mart so we didn’t get to see those on her but she was adorable as it is!  Oh the joys of first birthdays.  You go all out and do special things to remember the time.  It's nice when you can find free printables and neat little things to make it cute and affordable.

An activity that we got to do was make cowboy book marks.  I think she found supplies at the dollar store (smart momma).  We had foamy stickers, book marks, and then ribbons.  All the kid’s put their initials on their book marks with stickers and then filled them up with the cowboy stickers they liked.  My little guy of course was picking out the cowboy guns to put on his, hehehe. Once a boy always a boy!

I sewed Olivia a birthday hat that she can wear every year with a number in the front that is attached with Velcro so we can put a different number on it for next year.  And then I also made her a tooth fairy monster pillow.  It’s so stinking cute, I’m definitely going to make these for all my friends kid’s.  We got a few cute pictures of Olivia wearing the hat too:)

What are you doing for your family or friends birthdays this year?  Need help, inspiration, or for us to take the reins let us know.  Either way I want to hear the ideas!!! - Making Memories~Nicole

Are you tired of getting sick all the time?

Are you tired of getting sick all the time?  Here are some tips from me on how to get your body to where it can fight illness better and you can kick it faster:

You can even have Organic Produce delivered to your door for a reasonable price!

JUICE!  Buy fresh (organic if possible) fruits and veggies, wash them off,  and juice them up. They are great for your body to help rid you of illness. This website helps with a community of people, recipes, and encouragement for juicing. http://jointhereboot.com You should also buy the DVD “Fat, Sick, & Almost Dead”.  It is an eye opener.

Here is a website that has some myths on beating colds and flu’s and what you can do instead (miso soup is really great for our bodies if it the real thing):

Here are 8 things that are good for our bodies… pick up some vitamins but read this article first:

I recommend this brand of vitamins. They are pricier but they are worth it. Their ingredients are exceptional and can really help keep your body on track.http://www.newchapter.com/

I have been fighting something for a week as well. I started with a sore throat and green snot but I have been juicing once or twice a day and taking my vitamins and I have managed to keep it at bay and stay healthy.

When you are not sick it is good to exercise.  Even just walking 30 minutes a day can greatly reduce sickness and help your immune system. Watch this for more info…it is also a great eye opener.

I hope that helps!  Happy New Year and Cheers to getting HEALTHY! And living long happy lives!

Ways to Give a Gift this Holiday without Spending a Dime

This year I was thinking of the few “gifts” that I would like that would not cost anyone money.  I would love to have help with some things and I thought I would share my ideas with you. I know that everyone’s budgets have been tight the last few years so now is the time to get creative and find ways to show your loved ones how much you love them without breaking the bank.

1.       Give the gift of helping a friend organize or clean their house. I have some drawers in my bedroom and bathroom that have not seen the light of day in a while. I feel the most motivated to clean and organize when I have a partner.  If I had a friend come over to help me get to the little things in my house that I never find time for, I would be ecstatic.  I have quite a few friends who have many kids, busy work schedules, or just struggle with organization in general. I know that many people feel the same way I do. So, offer your time to a friend this year and that would be an incredible Christmas gift.

Learn the best Organization tips at Marthastewart.com
2.      Babysit:  I have many friends who rarely get a chance to go have a date or get a chance to read a book alone, go grocery shopping, or have coffee with a friend. Offer to babysit for free so your friends can have a little time to themselves.

3.      Make a meal. I have one friend who works more than full time, is getting her Master’s & Credentials, and is a newlywed. She has a lot on her plate.  Bringing a meal by for her and her husband would be greatly appreciated. Think of someone you know would appreciate this and double up the portions for your own dinner that night and give the extra away.
4.      Volunteer!  I have a handful of friends whose children have illnesses. It is a huge support and encouragement to them when people are willing to volunteer at the non-profit of their choice (examples: kids with cancer foundations, breast cancer foundations, diabetes awareness, etc).  You can run in a 5k with them, volunteer for the non-profits next event, or help get donations for the family.  This is a great way to show someone with a disease or illness how much you care.

5.      Help with simple things that may overwhelm your friends or family. Example: Walk their dogs, go grocery shopping for them, wash their car, if you are handy with tools, fix their broken fence or squeaky door. Try to think of what would really help this person and meet their need instead of just buying them a present.

These are just a few ideas. I am sure you can think of your own.  I hope this got your wheels turning on what thoughtful things you can do for your friends and family this year.

Merry Christmas!  -Kendall

Christmas Baking Party-12 Days till Chirstmas

There is nothing like receiving a box of homemade goodies in the mail that are packaged cute for your enjoyment!  So this year Cherry Kissed and Friends teamed up to make amazingly delish goodies to send all over the country (to our neighbors and close friends) as their Christmas gifts.  It was a way to give something special, cute, and inexpensive to a lot of people we love.

Click Picture to get the Peppermint Stick Cocoa Jar recipe!

The goodies we made included: White and Dark Chocolate Dipped Pretzels with Toppings, Cookie Cutter Fudge, Saltine Toffee, Grandma's Tomato Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting Jars, Mom's Pumpkin Can Bread, and Peppermint Stick Cocoa in Jars!

Some of all the goods! You will need LOTS of space, it’s helpful to set up stations)

Just to give you an idea, it took three of us ladies approximately 7 hours to complete this task.  Baking, making, creating, decorating, making tags, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, and separating!! With probably another couple of hours for grocery shopping the week before.  We also had to multiply our recipes to get the amounts we wanted.  It was a good lesson in math and creative skills.  None the less, you can do this. It’s super fun and we were all REALLY thrilled with how much we got to take home and send off as adorable gifts that you can't buy in the stores.

Out of everything we made, my favorite (and the items I will continue to make) are Michelle's Saltine Toffee.  It was sooo good and incredibly easy, fast, and inexpensive.

Click for Recipe: A MUST try! Packaging:Zip-locks with Scrap-booking paper printed on,cut, then stapled:)

The Cocoa Jars were so adorable and took no cooking time at all. They may be a little bit more expensive then some of our other goodies, but still not bad considering they’re tasty and cute!

My other favorite was the Dipped Pretzels because you can make them look so darn cute and the few ingredients can make a TON.

No recipe needed, just dip pretzels in chocolate, almond bark, or candy melting chocolate.  Melting chocolate worked better than regular chips. Right after you dip them in the chocolate put them down on parchment paper and decorate them with anything you like! Coconut would have been cute or mini white chips!  We used Andie’s mint chips, mini chocolate chips, mini M&M’s, Heath chips, and Gingerbread crumbs.

The last but not least favorite of mine was the Cookie Cutter Fudge because we poured the fudge right into foil lined cookie cutters and then decorated, refrigerated, and wrapped them up. After they cool you can remove the foil lining the bottom of each cutter and wrap it up in whatever you want to give out.  It also made a ton!! And the cookie cutters come with the fudge as part of your gift!

Click for Recipe! Easy Peesy fun!

For the Cookie Cutter Fudge, we got our cutters at Trader Joe’s.  You can get three for a dollar! Wal-Mart couldn't even beat that; there's sold for $2.99 for three cookie cutters.

Fun picture of our Pretzel Stick Assembly Lineup! Shows you how much space you REALLY need!

Those were my top favorites. I loved that we did my Mom's Pumpkin Bread Can's and Kendall's Grandma’s Tomato Spice Cake Jars but I feel they were a lot more work for what you get. But they are really special, so it was worth the extra work! Just start saving up good cans from soups or coffee way in advance for the Mom's Pumpkin Bread recipe.

Finished Pumpkin Breads! They are so cute! My mom would be proud:)

Kendall's Grandma's Layered Spice Cake turned out AMAZING! Gosh, these  little guys are so cute, it’s hard to eat them! Because they have cream cheese frosting, keep them refrigerated. WE scooped the cake and frosting in layers into mason jars.  They are an amazingly special gift to give and especially to receive.  I'm sure there are lots of other cakes you could do this technique with of layering in a jar.  *What we found out to work the best is to use the smaller wide mouth mason jars. That way you can really get your cake in the jar as clean as possible. *It would have also been nice to have a pastry piping bag to get the icing in there a little easier too! Already I had friends see the pictures of these and they hoped they were receiving this as a gift.  Maybe we should have made more.

Finished Pretzel Sticks Bagged up!

Don't forget the parchment paper needed to cover everything as you prep and lots of cute tags and bags to label all your cute goodies. It really adds that special unique touch! Good luck with your baking extravaganza's this Christmas season. Can't wait to hear what you create.  Do you have any good ideas you want to share?  Please comment on our blog or facebook so that others can learn from your good ideas as well.
